How do you make the perfect freshwater angelfish tank?

I have a 55 gallon tank with 4 angelfish. I hav small brown gravel, tons of fake plants, and a large fake driftwood piece. The problem is I cannot turn on the light without them loosing their color. I want to make it a perfect tank for them. I would also like live plants. But I really dont know how to do live plants. I also heard of blackwater...Do they like it, and how do you do it? Also what is a good light? I also cannot change the gravel so i dont know about live plant......... So please help me make the perfect tank for them.
