I want to break my year contract for my apartment.?

I moved into an apartment complex that sounded good at the time. We moved in to the first floor of a three storie building. Well after the first night we noticed that any time the two neighbors upstairs took a shower or something, that dirty water would come up from our tub, so we called maintenance....but all they did was snake the tub...which does nothing....we have been dealing with this living condition for a while now, and anytime it happens the maintenance people insist that it is our fault somehow. Not only this but they were working on the upstairs neighbors tub for a different reason, and they blew a pipe and flooded our apartment with more dirty water, i am fed up with dealing with disgusting unsanitary living conditions, but i dont want to be forced to pay the price for paying the consequence of breaking a contract. So far the apartment people havent been any help at all...we even stoped calling maintenance because we know their not gonna fix anything, and just make us uncomfortable in our home. My question is, is their any law that i can throw at these people so that i dont have to give away my money? or does anyone have a similar situation that can be helpful in any way? anything helps, i just deserve better then to live in someones dirty water...and i work too hard to give my money away.
