What's with all the hip-hop artists remaking songs all the time?

Like "Let ya chain hang low", or "If I were a rich girl" by Gwen Stefani. That was stolen from Fiddler on the Roof. And it's not like they are doing the original songs justice because the kids that listen to that crap don't even know that they stole the songs.
