I am thinking of reading The Catcher in the Rye right now. Would you recommend it?

I am a 33 year old guy who loves to write but I am not really well read (if that makes any sense). My degree is in history from the University of Wisconsin. I have decided to start reading the clics. I want to read many many books. The first four authors I have decided to read are Faulkner, Salinger, Steinbeck, and Hemingway. Anyways, do you recommend The Catcher in the Rye?
