Why do Jehovah's Witnesses use the name Jehovah?

I have been reliably informed that the use of God's given name was removed by the bible for superstitious reasons, and that not being superstitious, Jehovah's witnesses are proud to use it. But his name is Yahweh, the name Jehovah itself was invented for superstitious reasons, surely?
